If you are an international student, then you should definitively stop by at the International Center for Students (ICS) at the Fort Garry Campus. They have lots of experience with students in the transition phase and offer programs to help you before and after your arrival.
ICS also provides opportunities for UofM students to go abroad through the Student Exchange Program as well as the World W.I.S.E Resource Center.

A variety of events throughout the year allow you to meet fellow students and gain insight into different cultures. Event schedule

Welcome Family Program
The ICS offers the Welcome Family Program. It allows newly arriving students to stay with a family for up to 5 days and is free of charge. Welcome Family Program

The ELC supports international students through a variety of programs, such as language courses or Homestay.

Homestay Program
The Homestay program allows the student to stay and live in a family for the course of their studies. As the program includes food and logis, there are certain fees applicable.

Health Insurance for International Students

Manitoba International Student Health Insurance Plan
As an international student you will be automatically enrolled into the Manitoba International Student Health Insurance Plan (MISHIP). The membership fees will be charged on top of your fees and are due at the beginning of each semester. If you have a work permit you might be eligible for Manitoba Health. In that case you can opt out of the MISHIP.

UMSU Health & Dental Plan
On top of that all UofM students are enrolled in the UMSU Health and Dental Plan, which will also be charged on top of your fees. This plan gives you additional benefits, such as dental work, prescriptions, and other medical services. For more information please visit UMSU Health & Dental

Instalment Plan for Tuition

As an international student you are eligible to apply for an installment plan. If you are approved, your tuition can be paid in three installments from September to November. Only the Health Insurance (both UMSU and MISHIP) need to be payed by the term deadline.
